There are definitely preconceived notions of what a security guard’s responsibilities are. Every time we ask someone what they think a security guard’s duties are, they say, “Prevent people from stealing,” or something of the like. People are correct, but only to a degree. Security guards absolutely help prevent theft, but they also do so much more.
Let’s break it down.
Patrol Security Guards
Many HOA’s (homeowners associations) employ roving or patrolling security guards, a service that APEX Security provides. It is a roving security guard’s duty to drive around communities, and patrol neighborhood. Equipped with a car and a radio, a roving security guard has all he or she needs to cover the community, and maintain a lookout while you are busy. The number of roving security guards/vehicles does depend on the size of the area, though typically for a gated community you only need a handful or less of patrol security guards.
Security guards in this role report suspicious activity, track down unwanted visitors and trespassers, and keep children safe.
Keep Children Safe
Community security guards are always on the lookout. You can rest assured, that with an APEX Security guard on the job, your children will be safe within the community.
We see this all the time. Kids get older, and typically around 11 or 12, they start hanging out around the communities with one another in little packs, without adult supervision. Sometimes kids are a lot more responsible than we think, but they are also just kids. If a child should get hurt, see something suspicious, or maybe get into a little bit of trouble, your APEX Security guard will be there. Whether it’s a scraped knee, an asthma attack, or some light trespassing by one of the lakes or ponds at night, your APEX Security will know how to handle the situation.
Monitor Crime Within the Community
Criminals and troublemakers don’t cease to exist within the walls of a gated community. You may know your neighbors well, and your friends down the street, but do you know everybody in the community? Probably not. We’ve seen criminals living within the communities, breaking car windows to steal valuables and radio systems.
APEX tailors its community security guard services around each of our communities, ensuring that you are in secure hands. Each community is a little bit different, and we make sure to account for that.
Crisis Prevention Intervention
One added bonus of an APEX Security officer is the Crisis Prevention Intervention (CPI) training that our guards go through. CPI is a non-violent method of intervention during an emergency or crisis that is practiced in many densely populated environments, such as schools and hospitals.
APEX Security
Living in a gated community, especially one monitored by a gate attendant, does add an extra level of security to your property. But just because your neighborhood is gated, doesn’t mean you don’t need security guards. Some people might even argue that living in a gated community has a greater need for security, as a gated community infers that something is worth protecting.
