It’s all there in the name:security guard services. It is a collection of services that are provided to real people who need real care to stay secure in their surroundings.
Though it is not the norm, security guards sometimes come across individuals who are acting hostile or whose behavior escalates toward violence. One groundbreaking and important technique for handling these types of situations is the idea of nonviolent crisis intervention, developed by the Crisis Prevention Institute (CPI).
It is such an important aspect that the entire managerial staff at Apex has certifications in crisis prevention and intervention. We conduct continuing CPI training for our staff. Our goal is to make sure any situations are handled quickly and without aggravating the individual(s) involved for their own safety and for the security of the people we serve.
What is Crisis Intervention to Security Guards?
Nonviolent crisis intervention is a method of behavior management. It allows security officers to act in such a way that an individual who is acting disruptive or even dangerous has no further reason to escalate their behavior. It is how they create opportunities to end this disruptive behavior.
These are the key components of the core philosophy:
- Care
- Welfare
- Safety
- Security
These are the building blocks of security guard services. The CPI method combines the study of human behavior, communication, and human physiology to paint a complete picture of what happens to an individual’s mind and body when a crisis occurs. It gives our security guards the power to contain a situation and turn it into a positive outcome.
