July is here and so is the pinnacle of Summer holidays: the Fourth of July. As tradition holds, many Americans celebrate the country’s independence by holding family gatherings, and barbecuing with friends in their backyards. Lawn games, good food, and good company are just the name of the game. And when the day rounds out, and the sun finally sets, everyone cheers for fireworks!
The Fourth of July really is one of the most meaningful holidays we can celebrate as US citizens, and also one of the most fun. While play rings throughout most of the day, safety must remain constant.
Don’t let an accident disrupt your Fourth of July. Have a great time, but as always, stay vigilant. Here are a couple of things to watch out for wherever you spend the day.
Sun Safety
Always remember to wear sunscreen, no matter how tan or pale you are. The sun can be very destructive and yield both short term, and long term, effects. Protect your skin, and avoid paying the price. Too much sun will only tire you out, and cut your fun short!
Dehydration
Like to much sun, dehydration can also cut your holiday short by a couple of hours. Stay hydrated throughout the day to avoid feeling uneasy later in the day. It is especially important to hydrate while drinking alcoholic beverages. The Mayo Clinic recommends drinking a glass of water in between alcoholic beverages, as well as limiting yourself to one alcoholic beverage an hour.
Food Allergies
You might not have food allergies, but there’s a good chance that someone at your party does. Nowadays, 1 in 13 children under the age of 18 have a food allergy. If you are serving food, or bringing something to eat with you, make sure to ask anyone if they have a food allergy. If anyone does actually have an allergy, they will really appreciate your consideration. Nothing ruins a good time like a trip to the emergency room.
Pool Safety
Chances are that you will center your party around somewhere or someone that has a pool. Whether there are children there or not, you need to practice pool safety. You should never run near pools, nor should you consume alcoholic before entering the pool. Never dive into shallow pools, or have breath-holding contests.
Fireworks
Even though fireworks are illegal for residential use here in Florida, people still manage to get ahold of them and use them as if they were legal. APEX Security does not condone the use of illegal fireworks, but if you should get a hold of them, be careful and cautious. Beware of where the fireworks are aimed, who is surrounding them, and if there is anything above them that can catch fire, like trees. Never light a fire work with it in your hand.
The best way to enjoy fireworks is at a town, state, or venue sponsored display, where your entertainment and safety rests in the hands of a professional.
APEX Security
Not every occasion calls for an APEX Security officer, but it still calls for safety. Keep an eye out for your friends, family, and loved ones.
