Criminal Deterrent
Our security officers act as an immediate deterrent from criminals. Having a security officer posted or on patrol can often be enough for vandals to think twice before stepping onto the property. Crimes such as trespassing and vandalism can be drastically reduced as routine patrols show everyone that this location is under a watchful eye. Trespassing and offenses often occur in areas with little to no supervision during later hours. This effective deterrent can be beneficial to local police as it can lower crime rates in neighborhoods and neighborhoods and other highly trafficked areas such as shopping centers.
With efforts like these, it’s easy to see how Florida’s crime rates have hit a remarkable fifty-year low. In addition to this new low, property-related crimes have dropped by seventeen percent in the last year. The community’s support of local law enforcement has been a primary contributing factor in the sharp decline. This welcome reduction provides both homeowners and business owners greater peace of mind in their communities and greater faith in local police.
Assist in Conserving Resources
Another way hired security works with law enforcement is through their ability to help in conserving valuable resources. In emergencies, minutes and even seconds can make all the difference in the outcome. That’s why it is so important to have as many officers as possible to respond to these instances.
This is where security officers come into play as they can respond to smaller-scale issues that do not necessarily require police presence. For instance, a noise complaint at an apartment can first be addressed by the apartment’s hired security. On-site security services can respond to these minor issues faster as they are already on location. Should the situation escalate, security officers can contact the police and describe what happened. This joint effort also demonstrates to the community that local police will be on the scene when a disturbance begins to climb.
Fast Response Time
Security officers assist local police with their fast response time; we briefly discussed this in the last section regarding conserving resources. A prompt response prevents situations from growing and strengthens the community’s trust in knowing that someone will address the issue regardless of severity or the hour of the day.
Local law enforcement has a lot of ground to cover each day as they patrol the greater community. Their arrival time to calls can depend on a few factors, such as the distance and priority of the emergency. To provide some perspective, a package stolen from a front porch would not result in an immediate response compared to an armed robbery. For hired security, officers are stationed at one location or building, either at an assigned post or patrolling that area. This allows for an immediate response when contacted by residents or employees.
Supporting the Florida Sheriffs Association
As Honorary Members of the Florida Sheriffs Association, we take part in the organization’s efforts to provide exemplary modern training and assist all Florida sheriffs’ offices in obtaining accreditation.
In 2021, FSA members including Apex Security contributed to crucial resources for our sheriffs, helping them:
- Provide funds to purchase more than 320 bulletproof vests like one that saved a Highlands County deputy’s life.
- Award 25 scholarships to the future leaders of public safety.
- Direct $1,347,254 in grants for small and medium-sized sheriffs’ offices to respond to the needs of their community through regional sharing of equipment provided by the FSA Shared Asset Program.
- Serve over 13,200 hours of training to law enforcement via the Florida Sheriffs Training Institute.
