Sometimes, our most positive and self-affirming moments happen during grim incidents.
As security guards in Orlando, a place that we call home, we know things aren’t always perfect. We saw that this past Labor Day weekend when a group of three boys fished out a loaded gun, ammo clips, and a bag of .380-caliber bullets from a lake near the Waterford Lakes suburb. The hammer was cocked on the gun.
Luckily, ApexOrlando security guard Joe Corica, who is assigned to the Waterford Lakes community, relied on his instincts and training to get the gun away from the kids immediately. A deputy from the Orange County Sheriff’s office took custody of the weapon.

A Word of Thanks
We are thankful that nothing happened, and that Security Officer Joe was in the right place at the right time to mitigate a potentially lethal situation. It was a positive outcome, and we believe this is due to continual training of our security officers, as well as Joe’s professional demeanor and protective instinct.
It’s disheartening to see that kids in our city could be randomly exposed to dangerous items. However, we know that everything was – and is – being handled properly, and we thank the Orange County Sheriff’s office for their quick and professional response.
And thank you to Joe Corica. Neighborhoods are a little more safe and secure under the service of people like Joe.
Apex Security is proud to have an Orlando security guard of his caliber on board, and we look forward to serving our communities in the future.
