As we discussed in our recent press release, security guard turnover rate affects the security industry on a regular basis. Fortunately for APEX, we have been able to retain many of our security guards for over 10 years.
How We Retain Our Security Officers
Team Building
Team building is a must for any team-based organization. We promote friendly and healthy relationships between our security guards. When you are working with a team that you trust and whose company you enjoy, work becomes that much more enjoyable.
Meaningful Work
We make sure our guards know they are doing meaningful work, and remind them when they forget. Whether they are posted at a residential gated community, or a construction site, our security guards know that their work is appreciated. Keeping families and possessions safe is important work.
Be Concise
We provide clear directives to our security guards, to avoid confusion and frustration on their end. Giving clear instructions can be the difference between making mistakes and not making mistakes. Mistakes will only stress everybody out.
Provide Tools of Success
Our security guards have the necessary clothing, and functioning equipment, to succeed. If you don’t supply your employees with the proper tools to succeed, they will inevitably do lesser quality work and experience a higher level of frustration. Security guards don’t require too many tools, so make sure the one’s they do need, work.
Work-Life Balance
We understand the importance of the work-life balance, and provide our security guards with reasonable, low-stress, schedules. You cannot expect someone to work 12 hours shifts, 6 days a week, and be happy. Make sure your security team is comfortable with their schedules, and do not have any serious conflicts that are stressing them out.
Maintaining our practices, and ensuring that our security officers are happy and have what they need to succeed is vital to APEX security services. Security companies that fail to retain security officers can find themselves suffering, and withering away.
Negative Effects of Turnover Rates
- Loss of time spent forging relationship amongst team members.
- Loss of experience.
- Loss of a guard’s familiarity with a particular post.
- Loss of a community’s familiarity with their guard.
- Stress of being understaffed, and probably overworked.
Here at APEX Security, we take pride in keeping our security officers happy and motivated in order to give you the best service that we possibly can. Maintaining strong relationships with our security officers and our clients is just the APEX way.
